New last year, and in effect again this year, is the electronic submission of student papers and abstracts. State qualifying students are to email a single Word (.doc) version of their paper and abstract to Michelle Norgren, state director, at michellenorgren@missouristate.edu. Hard copies of the papers WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. The submission should be a single Word document that contains all the parts of the complete research paper. The student is NOT to send each page, picture, spreadsheet as a separate file. It is not the responsibility of the director to assemble the paper into a single presentable document. The paper will be converted to a PDF document and posted to a password protected location on the MJAS website. The link and password will be provided to the state judges and they will have the opportunity to print and review the papers in advance of the state competition, thereby making this truly a paper competition supported by an oral presentation.
If your teachers are sending a file larger than 5M, please use the following program to package your large file in to a size that can be received http://www.pando.com/install-pando

We will be having a poster session at the Junior Academy of Science spring meeting. Any student that has won a district competition in the High School division and will be competing at the state meeting is welcome to prepare a poster. Be sure to thoroughly read the rules and guidelines for this competition.

Remember that each MJAS district is responsible for affiliating with the State Academy at a cost of $500. This solution was implemented in an attempt to supply the funding necessary to have a state competition. If a winning student from your district wishes to participate in the state meeting and your district has not paid the $500 affiliation fee, that student will be charged a $50 participation fee to attend the state meeting. We do not wish to put this financial burden on the students, so please do your best to see that your district pays the necessary affiliation fee to Paula Macy as soon as possible.

There are a number of deadlines to meet so please adhere to the checklist to assure that all information and materials are routed to the appropriate location by the indicated deadline. The checklist will also provide links to all required state forms and information. Be sure to take advantage of the online submission of the Early Report Form and the District Competition Summary.
I look forward to seeing all of you in Joplin. Please contact me with any questions and concerns at 417-836-5053, fax:417-836-6979 or by email MichelleNorgren@missouristate.edu
